Usually, a CD or DVD that skips or does not play properly is dirty. Fingerprints, dust, dirt, and hair can interfere with the laser reading the disc causing it to skip or have other minor glitches in specific parts of the disc. I have the UBP-X700 and have the same issue. It never freezes when playing DVDs or BluRay - only UHDs. It froze on TopGun UHD purchased brand new. But when I cleaned the disc, it worked fine. It seems to be a thing with UHDs in that they need to be cleaned before being played even when they are new..
